Director of Children’s Ministries

Purpose: The Director of Children’s Ministries will serve Grace Presbyterian by coming alongside parents to shape and nurture the faith of their covenant children, with the goal of bringing them to full maturity in the faith.  This includes:

  • Igniting in the hearts of children a desire for a genuine relationship with Christ
  • Motivating children to trust and love the Bible and equipping them to use it
  • Instilling in children a desire to extend the love of Christ to other children
  • Encouraging parents to develop a biblical worldview in their children.

The Director will:

  • Cast the vision Grace Presbyterian has for children’s ministry and keep it in front of the volunteers who work with children as well as in front of the entire congregation
  • Develop and provide leadership to five key children’s ministries: nursery, Sunday School, “Sermon for Kids,” mid-week Pioneer Club, and a couple of special events during the year
  • Recruit, train, and pray for children’s ministry volunteers
  • Design and run the mid-week Pioneer Club program
  • Oversee a paid nursery worker to include providing orientation for all workers
  • Create and implement a system for ensuring regular communication between parents and the SS teachers of their children
  • Communicate consistently with parents about the overall vision, goals, and specific activities of both the SS and Pioneer Club programs
  • Ensure that the website section related to children’s ministries is up to date (maintained)
  • Manage the children’s ministry budget
  • Implement and maintain the church’s child protection policy
  • Work with leadership and/or a consultant to develop written policies to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of children being cared for in the nursery
  • Create systems for use of and management of curricula and related materials used in all children’s programs
  • Participate in training opportunities and continuing education as appropriate

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to build and lead a team of volunteers
  • Person who gives attention to details with an eye for excellence
  • Be a self-starter who is good at multi-tasking and prioritizing projects
  • Exhibits professionalism in appearance, work ethic, demeanor, and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Preference given to candidates with experience and/or educational background in children’s ministry or education

This position reports to the leadership team initially, works with current pulpit supply pastors as needed, and will eventually report to the senior pastor. The position is part-time with hours and compensation to be determined based on qualifications, experience, and the final configuration of responsibilities.
