  • Organist/pianist
  • Director of Children’s Ministries

Director of Music

Overview

The Director of Music will serve Grace Presbyterian by planning and administering the musical aspects of all worship services.  The goal is to provide an inviting, worshipful atmosphere; a sacred space where worshipers can encounter God. We believe the following will help to foster the kind of atmosphere we seek to provide:

  • A commitment to design the music around the theme of the scripture that is being exposited by the preacher so as to create a unified worship service/experience
  • A commitment to excellence in all musical expressions, regardless of style of music, instrument being used, or age of musician
  • A personal and growing faith in Jesus Christ

Responsibilities
The Director will:

  • Develop the musical portion of the worship service in consultation with the worship leader(s) to ensure that the music advances the theme of the service.
  • Recruit and oversee any compensated musicians that the church may use for regular worship services or special occasions.
  • Recruit, supervise, and rehearse all vocalists and instrumentalists including, but not restricted to, organist and pianist.
  • Seek to vary the styles of music and instrumentation while maintaining excellence
  • Assemble and lead small vocal and instrumental ensembles as the church grows.
  • Seek to draw the children and youth of Grace to active participation in worship through music.
  • Ensure that the sound system is working and set appropriately
  • In cooperation with church leadership, plan and oversee occasional special choral and instrumental services including performances by guest musicians.
  • provide piano and/or organ accompaniment IF HAVE THIS PROFICIENCY. In that case, the hours/compensation would be increased.

Qualifications
The Director will meet the following qualifications:

  • Feel called to ministry in music as an expression of worship
  • Demonstrate an authentic Christian life.
  • Be committed to the vision and worship philosophy of Grace Presbyterian
  • Be a person of musical ability as demonstrated by education and/or experience.
  • Be a team player with a positive attitude.
  • Have excellent organizational and people skills.

Accountability
This position reports to the acting worship leader(s) initially, works with current pulpit supply pastors as needed, and will eventually report to the senior pastor.

Organist/Pianist

This position is a 4-5 hour/week position to include one weekly Sunday service, rehearsals with soloists, occasional special services, and private practice. Either single or dual proficiency on the instruments will be considered. Compensation depends upon qualifications and experience.

Director of Children’s Ministries

Purpose: The Director of Children’s Ministries will serve Grace Presbyterian by coming alongside parents to shape and nurture the faith of their covenant children, with the goal of bringing them to full maturity in the faith.  This includes:

  • Igniting in the hearts of children a desire for a genuine relationship with Christ
  • Motivating children to trust and love the Bible and equipping them to use it
  • Instilling in children a desire to extend the love of Christ to other children
  • Encouraging parents to develop a biblical worldview in their children.

Responsibilities
The Director will:

  • Cast the vision Grace Presbyterian has for children’s ministry and keep it in front of the volunteers who work with children as well as in front of the entire congregation
  • Develop and provide leadership to four key children’s ministries: nursery, Sunday School, the “Sermon for Kids,” and mid-week Pioneer Club
  • Recruit, train, and pray for children’s ministry volunteers
  • Oversee a paid nursery worker
  • Create and implement a system for ensuring regular communication between parents and the SS teachers of their children
  • Communicate consistently with parents about the overall vision, goals, and specific activities of both the SS and Pioneer Club programs
  • Ensure that the website section related to children’s ministries is up to date (maintained)
  • Manage the children’s ministry budget
  • Implement and maintain the church’s child protection policy
  • Create systems for use of and management of curricula and related materials used in all children’s programs
  • Participate in training opportunities and continuing education as appropriate

Qualifications

  • Committed and authentic believer who feels a call by God into children’s ministry and has a love for children and families
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to build and lead a team of volunteers
  • Person who gives attention to details with an eye for excellence
  • Be a self-starter who is good at multi-tasking and prioritizing projects
  • Exhibits professionalism in appearance, work ethic, demeanor, and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Preference given to candidates with experience and/or educational background in children’s ministry or education

Accountability
This position reports to the leadership team initially, works with current pulpit supply pastors as needed, and will eventually report to the senior pastor. The position is part-time with hours and compensation to be determined based on qualifications, experience, and the final configuration of responsibilities.
