Grace Mission Statement

To advance the Kingdom of God in our homes, our workplaces, our communities, and the world by equipping the whole church body for whole-life discipleship.

We believe that ministry naturally flows from Christians that are mature disciples of Jesus Christ. A church that focuses on equipping its members for discipleship will, in the long run, be advancing the Kingdom of God. But what do we mean by “whole-life discipleship” and “whole church body?” These are terms that have grown out of the stated vision of the Laussanne Movement. That vision is: “the whole church taking the whole gospel to the whole world.” This statement has informed the worldwide evangelical church ever since and has been the underlying seedbed for development of terms about “the whole.”

At Grace, the “whole church body” means every person in our church body. This means equipping each child as well as each man and woman with a vision for ministry. No person is too young or too old for God to use him or her in His work of advancing His kingdom. Implied, of course, is that the church seeks to equip each member of the body to have some understanding of how to implement that vision.

What about the “whole-life” idea? This refers to the various contexts of everyday life—the contexts that people live in. Some have referred to these contexts as “frontline” places. In other words, these are the places where people spend most of their waking hours during the week. So these are the frontline places for ministry to occur. We can think of it this way. Since the church is already embedded in the homes, workplaces, schools, and communities of its members (since those are the places where its members spend most of their time), it is in those contexts (home, workplace, school, and community) where ministry will happen most naturally when disciples have a whole life vision.

The question is: Is the church discipling people for those frontline contexts? In most cases, probably not, though much is being written, today, about this responsibility of the church.  Grace Pres seeks to be intentional about equipping its body to live as disciples of Jesus in all of life. That’s what we mean by whole-life discipleship. We believe that the kingdom of God will advance when the church has this kind of ministry mindset. So this is our mission; this is our calling. This is how we envision being an Ephesians 4 church.
